A social, cultural, and fraternal organization, the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) was founded in 1922. The Order has about 50,000 members with 440 local branches and 500 auxiliaries for women and children. The Order is affiliated with the American Immigration and Citizenship Conference. Gregory Lagakos, the son of Greek immigrants, was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey. He practiced law in Philadelphia and served as a judge on the County Court of Philadelphia and the Common Pleas Court. He was active in the Greek community and in local and national Greek organizations, such as the Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America and its annual conferences and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
